Who Were the Pilgrims?
By: Maguire

The Pilgrims were the Saints and the Strangers. Saints left their homes for religious reasons. Strangers left for adventure, sickness, or were in trouble. There were 102 passengers on the Mayflower and surprisingly 1 person died on the Mayflower. However more than half died the first winter. Their journey was on the Mayflower. They landed in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and called it Plymouth. The passengers on the Mayflower were not the first colony. The first colony was Jamestown. Saints or Separatists wanted to separate from the Church of England. The Strangers also left for religious reasons, but also sickness, adventure, and some were in trouble. These are the Pilgrims.

Who were the Pilgrims?
John Michael
The Pilgrims were people who came from England to the new land in North America. All the reasons they came are unknown. But here are some reasons: to worship God in their own way, for freedom, to explore, they were in trouble (crime), or because they didn’t like their ruler. The Pilgrims sailed on a ship called the Mayflower. The Pilgrims helped create our nation.

The pilgrims were called the saints and the strangers. Half of the people on the Mayflower were saints or strangers. Strangers wanted religious freedom like to worship god in their own way. The saints were the separatists they wanted to separate themselves from the church of England and form their own congregation. But king James would not let the separatists practice their own religion.

Pilgrims are people who take a trip for a religious purpose. Like when they sailed to the new land. I’ll tell you.
It all began when King Henry the 8 wanted to keep on getting married and married over again. The pope (leader of the church) did not approve of all of the marrying he did. So King Henry the 8 outlawed the Church of England. So if you were catholic you couldn’t live there. The pilgrims then left. People now called them ‘’ Saints’’ or ‘’puritans’’. Some people in England didn’t think they went far enough. They were called separatist. The Saints read john Smiths book Description of New England. They said this time to America. The left on a boat called the mayflower here were Saint Strangers and Puritans on the boat. Amazingly only 1 person died on the trip. When they reached the new land they would be called pilgrims. The pilgrims started a new nation. But sadly about half the crew died the first winter at Plymouth.

Who were the Pilgrims?

The Pilgrims were people who want freedom. But they were not always called pilgrims. Some were saints known as separatists, others were strangers. The separatists were going for religious freedom. The strangers came either for adventure, or they were in trouble. Once the separatists and strangers sailed on the Atlantic Ocean they became Pilgrims. But before the big journey some separatists were in Holland, like a group named Scooby they decided to leave because they didn’t feel at home with the Dutch. That’s what I think!
